These cuties come to my window everyday for breakfast ... the problem is the background is too bright and these cuties appear dark. Suggestions...?

Ok, so I got dSLR (Canon 1000D) finally and these the very first photos taken with it. Experimenting with the controls and plan to teach myself how to use it.
These are taken at Gili Meno island in Indonesia where I had been for vacation.
